Bridging the Gap: Delivering Early Access to Medicines Across the NHS
Date: Tuesday 24 March
Time: 10:00 – 11:00
Location: Portcullis House, Westminster (room details provided upon confirmation)
The Access to Medicines and Medical Devices All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) will host a stakeholder roundtable examining how early access to innovative medicines can be strengthened across the NHS.
Chaired by Danny Beales MP, Chair of the APPG, the event will bring together parliamentarians, NHS representatives, patient organisations, industry stakeholders, and policymakers to explore barriers to accessing innovative medicines through Early Access Programmes (EAPs).
The APPG has been engaging with patient groups and stakeholders on the challenges surrounding EAPs and recognises the barriers patients face in accessing treatments through these pathways. The discussion will focus on inconsistencies in the delivery of early access medicines across NHS Foundation Trusts, including pressures related to resource constraints, disease prioritisation, and operational capacity that can contribute to postcode-based disparities in patient access.
The event will provide a forum for stakeholders to share perspectives and consider potential policy approaches to support more consistent access to innovative medicines across the NHS. Insights from the discussion will inform the APPG’s ongoing parliamentary engagement on strengthening early access pathways, and key themes emerging from the session will be reflected in a ministerial letter following the event.
